About Me

Hello, my name is Natalie Simak and I am a licensed acupuncturist (L.Ac.) and registered nurse (R.N.)  I have been working in the health care field for sixteen years. This puts me in the unique position to understand health and wellness from two different perspectives. Some problems are better treated by modern medicine but many can benefit from the more gentle approach of traditional Chinese medicine.

I had studied acupuncture and Chinese Medicine and received my Masters Degree of Acupuncture (M.Ac.) from the Tai Sophia Institute in Laurel, Maryland. I have been trained as a certified National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) specialist and Aroma therapist, and I am a current member of the Maryland Acupuncture Society and American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM).

My medical background also includes Bachelor's degree in Nursing (R.N.) from the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, and over 16 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) at the adult medical unit at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

I found acupuncture for myself years ago, when I went to my acupuncturist with a problem (I was having a lot of migraine headaches at the time). I was amazed and surprised after the first visit. I never thought the questions I was asked would be somehow related to the problem I had. I didn't understand, at that time, why she put a needle into my toe when that wasn't really my problem...

When my husband was suffering from a muscle injury from playing soccer I suggested to him to try acupuncture. After almost two months going through pain and pain medications, he finally agreed to visit my acupuncturist. One visit did it for him. He goes there regularly now, for his seasonal allergies, for muscle injuries from soccer and other medical issues.

I got so interested in acupuncture, that after experiencing the magic work of acupuncture for five years as a patient, I entered into the Masters of Acupuncture program at the Tai Sophia Institute in Laurel, Maryland. Tai Sophia is a great school and I have gained a lot of knowledge and practice there. At the Tai Sophia I had completed many hours of needling as a part of the detoxification training to help people with addictions. I had also completed many partnering sessions where I observed how other acupuncturists treat their patients. For over a year, I was treating patients under the supervision of the experienced licensed acupuncturists at the Tai Sophia facility. Since then, I have been treating my own patients in Columbia, Maryland.

My goal is to help people with the problems that arise from the stresses of life. These problems include almost any disease or pain. While I don't purport to be able to heal everything, I do know that acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help the body start its own healing. It is said that life is an adventure; I think the same can be said for healing.

I am honored that you have entrusted me to be one of your health care providers, and I am looking forward to hearing from you.
